CarPlay works fine out of the box, which is exactly why most people never touch it again. But the default is a grid of every compatible app you've ever installed, notifications with no plan behind them, and a Focus mode that may or may not be switching itself on. Fifteen minutes of setup turns it into what it should be: a screen that shows four things well and interrupts you for almost nothing.
